Teriffic TUI Uniforms

-- A massive thanks to Alison Elkes at TUI for helping me write this post with the information she provided. --

TUI Airways [Thomson Airways]is the largest charter airline in the world. Carrying 11.2 million travellers in 2017 to their holidays, TUI offers a wide route network and the ability to travel abroad for its cabin crew.

Overview

As TUI is a package deal company, when a customer books a holiday their hotel, flights, transfer and travel agents will be TUI – therefore it is important for the company to have a consistent brand experience and so all customer facing roles wear the same/similar uniforms that show the brand as one big family.

Customer facing colleagues are the face of the airline and so it is important that they follow the uniform standards guide to ensure their uniform is up-to-standard.

Core Uniform Items

TUI Uniform dress with hat and
scarf for crew members
The TUI uniform jacket is a dark blue/navy and compliments the brands colour scheme of: red, white, light blue and dark blue. The jacket gives a professional look to the wearer and, therefore, it should be worn fully fastened when worn. For the airline cabin crew, they must bring their jacket to each duty but don’t wear it during the flight [when serving]. They also wear the wings badge along with their name badge.

The uniform shirt is worn by women and men, it features a TUI logo on the left arm sleeve – shirts can be long-sleeved or short-sleeved. To add to the professional look of the company, employees are asked to wear the shirt fully tucked into their skirt or trousers.
However, if female staff do not want to wear the uniform shirt with skirt/trousers combination, they can wear the uniform dress. The dress is a smart business style in the dark blue to match the jacket. This style is smart and simple which makes it classic and represent the brand well.

Trousers at the company are dark blue (to match the brand colour scheme) and are worn with the uniform issue belt. Skirts are dark blue as well and are also worn with the uniform issue belt.

Accessories

TUI Uniform Apron; used for service
The uniform belt comes in two styles; one with a metallic TUI smile belt buckle and one with a
normal belt buckle. The smile style belt has a blue strap compared to the normal buckle style that is black.

At the airline only, waistcoats can be worn as part of a 2 or 3-piece suit and for service alongside the apron. It is navy and work well to give a classic and smart look. In addition, the apron is worn by both male and female cabin crew and cabin managers. It is navy and features a pocket on the front of the apron which allows crew to keep items such as a note pad.

For females, they wear a scarf that features the TUI dark blue, light blue and white. They can wear this tucked into their shirt or around their neck in a reef knot when wearing the dress. When wearing the scarf with the dress they must wear it on the left-side. Cabin Managers at the airline have a similar scarf but theirs also features the red stripe.

On the other hand, male staff wear a tie. The tie is white, light blue and dark blue – like the scarf - for cabin managers, they also have the additional red stripe on their tie.

Staying Warm

Staff have a cardigan or jumper that they can wear underneath the jacket when wearing the coat [but not without the jacket and coat], they can wear it in-flight when the seatbelt sign is off but not when it is on or for landing. It is a navy/dark blue colour as well and compliments the uniform shirt and scarf/tie when worn.
The coat is worn at the airline only and in the winter months it can be worn for disembarkation and boarding at the aircraft door. It is dark navy/blue and features epaulettes on the shoulders and visible buttons to fasten.

Finishing Items
Uniform Hat
Make-up at TUI is to be suitable for your work and not exaggerated. Staff are asked to wear a lipstick shade that is natural or red. Staff are also asked to wear their hair up if it is longer than the shirt collar.
Crew at TUI are provided a crew bag (suitcase) and hand bag which are both navy coloured. On the crew bag (suitcase) the red TUI smile. A tote bag is provided to male staff or colleagues who don’t use a handbag at the airline.
A lanyard is provided by the company and features the logo and blue background, it is worn with staff I.D or airport I.D.
The uniform name badges are worn on all items of uniform, except coats. It features the brand logo and the colour scheme, plus the persons’ name.
At the airline, female cabin crew and cabin managers wear hats. The hat is navy and is a pillbox design that features the TUI wing on the left side of the hat. Crew wear it for boarding and disembarking passengers, they also wear it when in public.
The wings at TUI are silver with the TUI smile in the centre of the circle at the front of the wing and has a feathered style wing.

Jet2.com Cabin Crew Training

Hello Everyone, I would like to start this blog by saying a huge thank you to Jet2.com for letting me visit the SIM centre to experience cabin crew training! #Jet2.com (Scroll down for videos!) -- I drove up to Leeds Bradford with my dad to the Jet2.com training centre at 9:00 AM on the 9th of September to arrive at the centre for 12:00 for the training. In total, the training session was 2h30 minutes long. James and Louise took me around the centre and I got to: do the safety demonstration, open the Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 757-200 door, slide down the B737 and B757 evacuation slides, serve coffee and tea in the customer service mock-up cabin, learn about pilot incapacitation, fight a fire in both and over head locker and on a seat, wear a smoke hood and learnt how to correctly fit one, use a BCF (a pressurised water one as BCF's are highly toxic!), learnt how to operate and use an aircraft wheelchair, saw a flight simulator, did a fire in the cabin exercise, lear...

South African Airways Uniform

Firstly, a massive thanks to South African Airways for flying uniform items from their JNB base to London Heathrow. #flysaa The items were sent out of JNB in the evening and landed in the UK the next morning, then I went to Heathrow terminal 2 to collect them that weekend. -- What is the uniform like then? The uniform is royal/bright blue; the female crew can either wear: trousers, a skirt or a dress. The dress has patterns on the pockets which add to the elegance of the dress. With this they wear a white shirt (if they aren't wearing the dress) and a jacket which is also royal/bright blue. The jacket has three buttons which should be fastened when worn. To finish of the look, female crew wear a scarf that features all the colours that are on the Republic of South Africa flag, which are: blue, red, green, yellow, black and white. Overall, in my opinion, the uniform is lovely and shows the spirit of South Africa which looks amazing with the aircraft livery and styl...
